NCN: working mens club

It was clear that in many ways the director had different priorities. I wanted to make the design much more of a concept a ‘run down’ music hall, faded glamour and the falling façade of theatre. The director wanted a very standard glamorous style that didn’t need to be an actual setting. In my attempts to give a more humble take on glamor I began looking at working men’s clubs, I felt like this was a modern extension of the Victorian music hall. Much like the variety shows and in the music halls of the Victorian period working men’s clubs had a gritty and seedy reputation. I worked on a model box design for this concept that had slashed curtains and sticky looking carpets. However this was also not suitable for the glamorous feel the director wanted
